Qingdao University of Science and Technology 70th Anniversary Commemorative Message
Dà jiā hăo (大家好).
Greetings to the president, faculty, staff, and students of Qingdao University of Science and Technology. I am Teruo Shimomura, the president of Fukuoka Institute of Technology.
I am overjoyed to see you mark the seventieth anniversary of your university’s founding on this occasion.
Looking back, your university began as the Shenyang Advanced Vocational School, which was founded in 1950 (nineteen fifty). After that, it became the Shandong Institute of Chemical Engineering in 1958 (nineteen fifty eight), the Qingdao Institute of Chemical Technology in 1984 (nineteen eighty four) and then finally developed into the present Qingdao University of Science and Technology in 2002 (two thousand and two).
Furthermore, it has been an incredible honor for our school to join in a non-degree student exchange agreement in 2009 (two thousand and nine), and then to later enter into an agreement for the admission of graduate students in the 4+2 (four plus two) Postgraduate Program. For the 4+2 (four plus two) Program in particular, since we welcomed the first group of five students from your school in 2010 (twenty ten), we have been welcoming exceptionally talented students from your university into our graduate program every year. In addition, with the participation of your students from 2016 (twenty sixteen) in the Japan Science and Technology Agency Sakura Science Plan short-term training course, our program has become even more of a cornerstone. I am extraordinarily pleased that the bonds of friendship between our schools have deepened.
Since the start of 2020 (twenty twenty), we have been struck by the worldwide spread of COVID-19 (nineteen). The world’s universities continue to be in a severe situation where they are forced to cancel their normal overseas programs and events.
However, I believe that by uniting as one, we will defeat this pandemic. Then, once a new day dawns after the end of the current outbreak, we will conduct even more active academic exchanges then before while deepening our friendship.
Finally, I would like to offer my heartfelt hope for the further growth of QUST and for everybody’s happiness and wellbeing.
