My name is Shirley Congdon, I am the Vice Chancellor here in the University of Bradford in the UK. This message is to congratulateQingdao University of Science and Technology (QUST) on the occasion of your 70th anniversary. This is a significant achievement and I am sure there are many milestones during this time of which you can be very proud. I am delighted that the University of Bradford has played a part in QUST’s journey. We share the common values of Excellence and Innovation, and both institutions strive to build upon these values into every aspect of what we do.
我是英国布拉德福德大学校长Shirley Congdon，在这里祝贺青岛科技大学建校70周年。这是一项非凡的成就，我相信在这个过程中有太多值得骄傲的里程碑。我非常高兴布拉德福德大学能够在青岛科技大学的旅程中发挥作用，我们拥有追求卓越与创新的共同价值观，两所大学也在不断努力的将这个价值观融入到我们工作的每一个角落。
As part of the world’s first UNESCO City of Film we were honoured to support the city of Qingdao to achieve its status as China’s first UNESCO City of Film. This was a major major achievement。I am delighted that we have recently signed an ambitious 10-year agreement with QUST to develop new programs and research in the field of the creative industries. The first initiative to emerge from this agreement was a joint undergraduate degree in animation, this commenced in September 2019 with an initial cohort of 50 students. Having delivered two modules of the degree in animation, we are impressed and excited by the enthusiasm and the quality of the students work. This has been a tremendous achievement. We hope to build upon this initial program with further courses in game development and to commence programmes in both game development and animation at postgraduate level. This will be a much further development of our relationship. Although delayed by the corona virus, we look forward to hosting Professor Yang, Dean of the College of Communication at QUST, for a year at Bradford to further develop these ideas.
作为全球首个联合国教科文组织电影城，我们很荣幸能够为青岛成为中国首个联合国教科文组织电影城提供支持。这是一项伟大的成就。两校近期签订了一项雄心勃勃的十年合作协议，在创意产业领域共同开发新的课程与开展科研合作。该合作的首个成果是2019年9月开始的动漫专业中外合作办学本科项目，目前有50名在读学生。在完成了两门动漫类课程的授课后，我们对于学生的热情与课业完成质量印象深刻，并感到兴奋。这是一份非常好的成绩单。我们希望以此为基础在游戏开发领域开展进一步的合作，并在研究生阶段开设游戏开发和动漫专业课程以加深双方的合作关系。尽管受到新冠疫情的影响，我们仍期待在未来欢迎青岛科技大学传媒学院院长杨教授访问布拉德福德，进一步探讨未来发展计划。
We are also working to develop research collaboration in the field of materials engineering. This work is led by the University of Bradford’s Polymer Interdisciplinary Research Centre, with Professor Phil Coates leading the collaboration. We are working with QUST on Biobased Polymer Materials, this is led by Professor Zhibo Li,and he will be working jointly with Professor Phil Coates to take this forward. We look forward to producing high quality research outcomes together.
两校之间也在材料工程领域进行着科研合作，该项工作由布拉德福德大学高分子跨学科研究中心Phil Coates教授领导，与青岛科技大学李志波教授带领的生物高分子材料科研团队联合推进。我们期待着共同合作能够带来高质量的科研成果。
In these unprecedented times, we rely on our established friends and colleagues across the world especially QUST and continue to value the ongoing joint work and partnerships. I would particularly like to mention Professor Ma Lianxiang, and I look forward to re-connecting with all colleagues in Qingdao in the near future. We look forward with great optimism to the coming years of the Qingdao-Bradford partnership, and I wish QUST and all its staff and students our very best wishes for continued success in the future.
